The year 2021-22 was a year of evolution for SCMAO (then operating as Supply Chain Canada, Ontario Institute). The paradigm shifts in the supply chain landscape have changed the way organizations perceive the role of supply chain. This shift has warranted the need for us, your association, to transform into the association that you need us to be in the future – a vibrant, leading edge and future-ready community of supply chain professionals. The role of supply chain in an organization’s strategic framework is about to become more important than ever and as your association, we are proud to be the home you can come back to, as you navigate this new trajectory for supply chains of the future.

2022
On January 6, 2023 SCMAO was advised by Supply Chain Canada, National Office that the Board and leadership had chosen to defer the matter back to a “working group” and the FC.
Based on the response from Supply Chain Canada, National Office, the SCMAO Board and leadership interpret the continued lack of a decision by the National leadership as suggesting that the reciprocity of CSCMP/SCMP is unlikely.
On December 22, 2022 SCMAO sent a reciprocity proposal to Supply Chain Canada, National Office
The reciprocity proposal sent by SCMAO was followed by a conversation between the CEOs at both offices, subsequent to which SCMAO was advised that the National Board would convene on January 5, 2023 and advise on their decision by January 6, 2023.
No update on SCMP/CSCMP reciprocity from the Federation at Dec 6, 2022 Federation Council (FC) Meeting
Despite the Federation Council’s commitment in the October 2022 meeting, to provide an update to SCMAO on our request for reciprocity at the next scheduled Federation Council meeting in December 2022, they advised that they weren’t in a position to do so.
The Federation Council (FC) held its first meeting following the mass resignation of the National Board and staff in June.
At the meeting on October 1, 2022, SCMAO tabled the opportunity to maintain reciprocity as it relates to the SCMP/CSCMP designation and specifically cited that clause 5.8 in the Federation Agreement provides the National office the “exclusive right” to provide reciprocity with other designations and as such the national office does not require the Federation Council’s approval on the matter.
Given the continued instability of Supply Chain Canada’s National office,
The SCMAO Board and Management sent a formal notice to the Supply Chain Canada Board Chair on September 7, 2022 to confirm on how they intend to continue delivering services and commitments, outlined in the Federation Agreement.
Supply Chain Canada National held an emergency board election
The board election took place on August 12, 2022 and with the new “interim” National Board in place, the hope was that the Federation will be able to reconvene meetings to discus the possibility of a path forward.
SCMAO took the first step toward building its operations, independent of the Federation to proceed with business continuity plan
Launch of SCMAO branding, website and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform.
Supply Chain Canada National informed the membership that the National CEO had resigned.
On June 15, 2022 Supply Chain Canada National Office made the announcement, as well in the same month, the whole management team and the Board of Directors resigned - creating the need for SCMAO to evoke its business continuity plan.
SCMAO provided Notice of Disassociation to Supply Chain Canada
On June 2, 2022, SCMAO provided Notice of Disassociation to Supply Chain Canada.
Over two-thirds of the members present at the Special Meeting of Members voted in favour of disassociation from the FC on May 31, 2022.
The document here encapsulates the history and key milestones behind this decision.
The SCMAO Board weighed the evidence and results from the FC,
as well as the merits of the Operational Plan as it relates to delivering value to members in a sustainable way, in order to make their recommendation to disassociation from FC.
FC rejected the suggested change to Voting Structure
and Project charters were NOT completed.
SCMAO Board presented the alternative plan
at the Special Members Meeting to SCMAO members who attended – the plan to disassociate from the FC.
2021
EWG recommendations rejected by FC
Instead FC approved 3 project charters – Supported by SCMAO but ready with an alternative plan should the charters fail.
Creation of the Executive Working Group (EWG)
by FC to agree on a path forward to address the Roles and Responsibilities and the Funding Model within the existing Federation Agreement – Supported by SCMAO.
SCMAO Board’s Plan B turned down by the FC
Development of the Master Merger Plan with the end result being a failure to pass the plan,
as the FC voted against proceeding further.
Conception of the “Delivering Member Value Project”
by Federation Council (FC) – an initiative fully supported by SCMAO Board.
